Actress Jiah Khan, who is still remembered for her bold debut in Bollywood romancing megastar Amitabh Bachchan in Ram Gopal Varma's Nishabd committed suicide at her Mumbai residence by hanging herself.
The actress, whose original name was Nafisa Khan, changed her name to Jiah before her debut in 2007. In 2012, though she changed her name back to Nafisa Khan.
Jiah (Nafisa), a British-Indian actress, was born on 20 February 1988 in Chelsea, London.
She was the daughter of Ali Rizvi Khan, an Indian American and a small time actress in 1980s Rabiya Amin. Her mother is most remembered for her role in Tahir Hussain's Dulha Bikta Hai.
Jiah Khan completed her film studies and literature in London and then went on to study at the Lee Strasberg Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. But she quit her course after receiving a Bollywood movie offer.
Jiah was to make her Bollywood debut at the age of 16 in Mukesh Bhatt's Tumsa Nahin Dekha, but backed out when she felt the role was too mature for her.
Since destiny had other plans for her, she made her big Bollywood DEBUT two years later in the controversial Nishabd, directed by Ram Gopal Varma.
Nishabd was the most talked about for her on screen romance with megastar Amitabh Bachchan. The movie opened to mixed reviews but Jiah Khan was noted for her confidence and sex appeal. The actress also got a "Filmfare Best Debutant" nomination for her performance.
Next she was seen in Aamir Khan's blockbuster Ghajini, which was the Hindi remake of its Tamil namesake by AR Murugadoss.
Though she did shoot a major portion of Ken Ghosh's Chance Pe Dance opposite Shahid Kapoor, but was replaced by Genelia D'souza.
Jiah Khan made an appearance in another super hit movie Housefull directed by Sajid Khan. She was seen with big stars like Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta and Arjun Rampal. This was her last film appearance.
