‘Fast enough to deserve better place on grid’

Narain Karthikeyan, the only Indian racing in Formula One, says despite problems he has proved that he has the speed to deserve a better place on the grid. Karthikeyan endured six retirements due to mechanical problems and other issues but he also has a season-best 15th place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix in the 2012 calendar so far. He has also competed well with his Hispania teammate Pedro de la Rosa and beaten him in qualifying in a few races.

And yet, he is classified 24th overall, a notch above the bottom-placed de la Rosa, with four races to go.

There is also considerable speculation regarding his F1 future. Now that most seats have been filled for the next season, and with just one or two places remaining to be grabbed, Karthikeyan feels he has done enough on the speed front to impress teams.

"Right now I would like to stay with HRT for 2013 as we can expect more progress with proper infrastructure which has been in place now. I think it will be decided over the winter once the season is through," he said.

New Jersey race postponed

PARIS: Formula One's inaugural Grand Prix of America in New Jersey has been postponed until 2014. "The event is not going to happen" next year as planned, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone said.

It was scheduled on the FIA calendar for June 16, subject to confirmation. "Everything is set up, but it's now too late to finish on time," Ecclestone said.

The race is set to run against a spectacular backdrop along the Hudson River through the towns of Weehawken and West New York. Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner earlier told The Jersey Journal that the race was not going ahead next year. The newspaper said Turner and another unnamed mayor claim organisers were behind on road repairs and permits.
