‘Gangraped’ for months, 14-year-old miscarries
A fourteen-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two people for several months at Kantharia village in Karjan taluka of Vadodara. But the incident came to light only after the villagers realised that the girl was pregnant and took her to the doctor for a pregnancy test.
The girl, who was six months pregnant, had a miscarriage at Karjan police station, where she was brought to identify the culprits, on Wednesday. "When the girl was at the police station, she complained of pain. She rushed to the toilet where she miscarried twin babies," police said. She was rushed to Vadodara civil hospital, where doctors said the girl's health was fine.
Police said they had registered a case of gangrape and assault against Gababhai Vasava and Sanabhai Vasava and arrested them on Wednesday evening. Both the accused are brothers. They had allegedly raped and assaulted the girl, threatening her with dire consequences if she told anyone about it.
The girl's parents are mentally unstable. They could not understand even after the girl showed signs of pregnancy, police said. When the girl's relatives and other villagers noticed her showing signs of pregnancy, they took her to the doctor who confirmed that she was six months pregnant.
"The girl's relatives approached us with a complaint, following which we registered a case against two persons," police said.
While the case was registered on September 2, the two accused were absconding and were arrested only on Wednesday, police said. After their arrest, the girl was asked to come to the police station to identify them. A case was registered under Sections 376 and 452 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for gangrape and assault.
