‘In future world economy will be solely based on creativity’

We have seen economies based on agriculture, manufacturing and knowledge in the past but in future the world economy will be solely based on creativity, said RA Mashelkar, former director general, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Speaking at the 64th Foundation Day of the University of Pune (UoP) on Sunday, the scientist appealed to students to grab the myriad opportunities available in future by developing creative and innovative mindset.

Touching upon the issue of quality of education, Mashelkar said while India is providing free and compulsory education to children from economically weaker sections of the society, emphasis should also be laid on its quality.

"Only Right To Education is not sufficient, we have to ensure right education," said Mashelkar. He also appealed to the varsity to provide 'thoughtful leadership' to the country and world at large.

Scientist Jayant Naralikar, film-directors Jabbar Patel, Yashwant Gadakh, Vilas Wagh, Nalini Narvekar and Pratap Pawar were honoured with life-time achievement awards, instituted by the UoP.
