100 vehicles challaned for drink-driving, overspeeding

The nakas were put up at 18 places, & 81 vehicles were challaned for drunken driving

The UT Traffic Police issued challans to a hundred vehicles for drunken driving and overspeeding at various nakas put up by the police. The nakas were put up at 18 places.

Out of the 100 vehicles which were issued challans, 81 were challaned for drunken driving. The UT Police officials stated that a person may be imprisoned for driving under the influence of an intoxicant beyond permissible limits.

A person whose breath analyzer test shows the presence of more than 30 mg per 100 ml of intoxicant, is considered to be incapable of driving and exercising proper control over the vehicle. The person is hence liable to be issued a challan.

If a person has a breath analyzer reading of above 200 mg per 100 ml, the person is liable for punishment which can extend to two years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3000.

On Saturday night, there were many nakas in the city from 9.30 pm to 12.30 am. These nakas were set up mostly at the dividing roads of many sectors apart from the usual places like IT Park Light point, Madhya Marg etc.

Also, out of the total 18 nakas, six were put up jointly with the police stations at Sector 26 and 36.
