233 traffic challans on New Year eve

Extra police vigil and grief over the death of Delhi gangrape victim led to fewer youngsters coming on city roads after midnight. In all, on December 31, the city police challaned 233 persons for traffic violations out of which they collected Rs 26,500 as fine.
Though hotels and clubs had organised parties with offers of unlimited drinks, Ludhiana police challaned only one person with drunken driving case.
Police were divided into 12 different sectors and each sector having one ADCP rank officer along with. Many roads were prohibited for car driving on Monday evening. Sarabha Nagar market was one among them. The youngsters hence had got no chance to do mischief. The strict vigil had started from afternoon onwards only.
After 12 midnight, hardly any youngsters were seen on the roads creating unruly scenes like previous years. Already a number of residents had cancelled New Year celebrations after the death of the Delhi gangrape victim.
2 bouncers held
Police on Monday evening arrested two bouncers, Gurpreet Singh alias Golu and Harpreet Singh Happy, who were also named in the FIR along with 'expelled' Youth Akli Dal leader Sunny Johar and others in attacking NRI Paramjeet Singh. In this scuffle as per the police statement, AIG S S Mand had got hurt. The bouncers were produced in court on Tuesday and were remanded in judicial custody till January 15, said Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh.
