Twenty-six persons were hospitalised in Anand Sunday night after consuming contaminated food at a marriage function. While six were discharged shortly, 20 others, including two children under the age of six, were discharged Monday, doctors treating them said. At least 200 persons consumed gajar ka halva that caused vomiting to many.
No more police remand for Shehra MLA
Vadodara: A local court at Godhra Monday rejected the request for extension of police remand for BJP MLA from Shehra, Jetha Bharwad, after which he was sent to the judicial custody. Bharwad was arrested by police after the court rejected his anticipatory bail plea Friday, following which he was sent to a two-day remand. He was arrested in connection with firing at four persons at a polling booth on election day.
Two child labourers rescued
Vadodara: The anti-child labour task force in Panchmahals district on Friday rescued two child labourers from district headquarters Godhra town and Halol, a taluka place. The team raided sweets shops in the town rescued the two children who were employed there illegally, an official release said on Monday. Authorities said they were in the process of taking action against the employers of the twin children.
12 held for 'gambling'
Ahmedabad: The city police arrested 12 people for allegedly gambling inside a basement walkway here on Monday morning. Police said the 12 work as peons and cleaners in the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The police seized cash and mobile phones worth Rs 33,000 and reported the matter to IIM-A authorities. The arrested have been booked under the Gambling Act.
