A 27-year-old man and his accomplice were arrested for allegedly stealing lakhs of rupees from his employer, a businessman. The accused, identified as Vijay Kumar, stole the money to start a business, police said. The accomplice was identified as Jasbir Singh and Rs 11 lakh recovered from the duo.
Kumar had reportedly worked as a cash deliveryman for Arsh Kumar, who has a mobile accessories business in Karol Bagh, for over a decade.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) D C Srivastava said, "On January 19, the businessman approached us with a complaint that Vijay, who used to collect cash from and make payments to clients, was missing. He told us that he had given Vijay Rs 11.5 lakh for delivery to a market in Mukherjee Nagar, North Delhi and the cash was also missing. We registered a case and investigation was ordered."
Kumar said he found that the cash was not delivered to his client and Vijay was missing. Vijay's phone was also not reachable.
Srivastava said, "Technical surveillance and sources helped us ascertain the whereabouts of Vijay. We found that he was moving in and around Mathura and Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. A police team was sent and raids were conducted in different areas. Vijay was arrested from a bus stop in Aligarh and Rs 5 lakh recovered from his possession."
On questioning, Vijay confessed to the crime, police said.
"He confessed that he had given the remaining cash and the cheque to his friend Jasbir, who was arrested later. Rs 6 lakh cash and a cheque of Rs 2 lakh were recovered from his residence," Srivastava said.
He told police that he planned the theft because he wanted to start his own business but did not have the resources. Further investigation to ascertain if any more people were involved with the accused is on, police said.
