2G: JPC to call auditor

The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the 2G spectrum allocation scam is likely to go into CAG's presumptive loss figure of Rs 1.76 lakh crore afresh following a decision by the panel to send for a former lead auditor.

The move is consequent to a claim made by former DG Audit (Post and Telecommunication) in CAG, R P Singh, that he was forced to sign the report that contained the presumptive loss figure. BJP's Yashwant Sinha recently wrote to JPC chairman P C Chacko, saying panel members wanted to know who pressured Singh to sign the report. Chacko told reporters: "I agreed to call R P Singh... he would be asked to appear before JPC."
