35-year-old murdered in Bhuleshwar chawl

A 35-year-old man employed as an accountant with an angadia (courier) firm was found murdered in his home in Bhuleshwar on Thursday morning.

The murderer, the police said, also stole Rs 3.7 lakh from the home of the deceased, Vinod Patel.

According to the police, Gujarat native Patel lived on the first floor of Bhagatwadi Chawl with two colleagues. "His colleagues were not home at the time. The accused seemed to have known who lived there and was confident of finding money," said Anant Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Girgaum Division.

The police said one of Patel's co-workers, who lives in Borivali, came to Bhuleshwar in the afternoon and found Patel bleeding at the home.

"He informed the police and rushed Patel to G T Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. Patel had eight slits to his throat and one on his wrist. We believe that he was killed between 9 am and 10 am," said inspector Shrikant Desai.

"The door of Patel's home shows no signs of a forced entry and the safe was opened using Patel's key," he said.

The police have called Patel's employer from Surat to record his statement.

"We have begun our preliminary investigation. The door of Patel's home shows no signs of a forced entry and the safe was opened using Patel's key," he said.
