5 hurt in freak blast at G地agar market

'The blast was triggered probably by the gas in an AC installed above the false ceiling in an electronic shop'

Five persons were injured in a mysterious blast at the posh Info City market in Sector 6 of Gandhinagar Saturday afternoon.

The explosion took place at 1.15 pm in an electronic shop inside Supermall in Tower-1 of the market that houses all kinds of shops, police said, adding that the reason behind the blast could not be ascertained.

The injured were first admitted to the civil hospital from where they were shifted to the Sterling hospital. The police said they suffered 30% burn and were out of danger.

The police said the false ceiling of the shop made of Plaster of Paris collapsed in the blast, which damaged the entire shop. The impact was so strong that a couple of windows of an adjacent residential complex were also damaged.

"The blast probably happened due to gas in the air conditioner which was installed on the top of the false ceiling. Forensic experts have collected samples of PoP and the AC to find out the actual reason," said police inspector S S Gadhvi.

According to the fire department, which struggled for nearly two hours to douse the fire, the blast was caused probably by LGP cylinders, though there was no trace of such cylinders.
