62-year-old man hit by bus

A 62-year old man died after a bus of Haryana Roadways ran over him at Majri Chowk Wednesday evening. According to sources Ram Chand Arora was waiting at the Chowk along with some other passengers when a bus hit him. He was shifted to the government hospital at Sector 6 where the doctors declared him brought dead.

GGDSD College Society to start new institute

Chandigarh: With an aim to impart education to all sections of society, GGDSD College Society is starting a new institute at Kheri Gurna, near Banur, Patiala district. The new institute will be a sister concern of GGDSD College, Sector 32, which is one of the prestigious colleges of the region. The new institute at Kheri-Gurna will begin its academic session in 2013-14 and will initially admit students in the Commerce stream.

PGI endocrinologist wins visiting professorship

Chandigarh: Dr Sanjay Kumar Bhadada, Associate Professor, Department of Endocrinology, PGIMER Chandigarh, has been awarded the Prof Shurvir Singh Visiting Professorship 2013 by the Association of Physicians of India for the year 2013. He delivered a lecture on his seminal work conducted on Primary Hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), Metabolic Bone Disorders and osteoporosis at the RNT Medical College, Udaipur. He also had an interactive session with MD (Medicine) residents of the college.

Man saved from nerve pain by medical procedure

Mohali: Gagandeep Singh, a 45-year-old patient from Chandigarh, who had been suffering from pain due to a nerve compression caused by a herniated (slipped) disc, has now been relieved of it, thanks to a modern medical procedure, cervical nucleotomy, specialised by Dr Avtar S Matharoo, Senior Consultant in Interventional Pain Management at Fortis Hospital, Mohali.

ASI held in graft case sent to judicial custody

Chandigarh: A special CBI court on Wednesday sent the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Punjab Police, Bhupinder Singh who was arrested in a trap case by CBI on January 29, to judicial custody. The accused had allegedly taken a bribe of Rs 45,000 from the owner of an immigration firm, Healthyway Immigrations, Sector 42. ASI Bhupinder Singh, posted in Jalandhar had allegedly blackmailed the complainant, Amit Kakkar saying that he has received a complaint from someone against the firm in Jalandhar.
