I rate Swarg as my most favourite film. Swarg did well. Though a serious film, people even today talk about it as it struck a chord. I was working with Rajesh Khanna for the first time. I shared a good rapport with him. He never threw tantrums on the sets. For Swarg, I made him wear a wig - he was reluctant but I insisted. He said, "Tu bada zid karta hai." Govinda was outstanding too. I still remember his lines from the film.

Shola Aur Shabnam

Shola Aur Shabnam is my best film, a turning-point in my career. Since my earlier movies hadn't done too well, I was still struggling as a director. With this, my struggle ended and success story started. But it was quite an ordeal to make the film. It's tough to handle so many people when you have not yet made your mark as a filmmaker. You get pushed around easily but I fought back. And I'm glad that Shola Aur Shabnam did very well. Govinda helped me a lot and stood by me. He encouraged me to do the film.

I tasted real success in 1993 with Aankhen. It was a blockbuster in the true sense of the term. Producer Pehlaj Nihalani also put in a lot of effort for this film. Govinda too was instrumental in making it a huge success. He took it to a different level. Kader bhai(Khan) was outstanding in his double role. People also loved the monkey and Bappi Lahiri's music was superb. The song Lal dupatte wali is still a rage.

Bol Radha Bol

This was another of my good films. It was the first time that I worked with Rishi Kapoor, who is a fabulous actor. Juhi Chawla was outstanding. The music too was a hit with Tu tu tara. This was also my first film where the hero had a double-role, and Rishi played the negative role very well. Unfortunately the film did not open well. I think the title was misleading, but after the weekend, it went on to become a silver jubilee hit. I had great support from producer Nitin Manmohan.
