A French Winter

November and December will be busy months for Delhi-based Lightcube Film Society as it is organising a retrospective of the work of celebrated French director Alain Resnais. "Organising a film director's retrospective is an ideal way to understand how his body of work has evolved and grown over the years. We recently concluded a retrospective on Fritz Lang, where we showcased 10 films, which was highly appreciated and well-attended. These retrospectives are non-commercial in nature and aim at engaging cinema buffs and exposing them to films from around the world," explains Suraj Prasad, co-founder of the society. In Resnais' retrospective, the society plans to screen five short films and five feature films, to be followed by a discussion on the director's works and his method of filmmaking. The French director, who has been making films since the '50s, is notable for the exploration between memory and consciousness in his work as well as his commitment to political issues and modernism. Some of his most acclaimed works including Last Year At Marienbad and Hiroshima Mon Amour will be screened over the five weeks of the event.
