AAP likely to field Anjali Damania against Gadkari, Kumar Vishwas to take on Rahul

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to field one of their leading anti-corruption campaigner Anjali Damania against former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari for Nagpur Lok Sabha seat.

Her name, however, will have to be vetted by the party's top volunteers at Nagpur before being finally announced. Damania had alleged irregularities in the affairs of Gadkari's Purti Group earlier this year.

Talking to The Indian Express, Damania said, "I was initially reluctant to take it up due to my personal and family responsibilities. The state unit of the party, however, wanted me to fight against Gadkari. Party's national executive member Mayank Gandhi also said I must fight against Gadkari since I had launched a campaign against his Purti Group. So, I have accepted the challenge. But my name will have to be accepted and vetted by party's Nagpur volunteers."

Asked if her candidature goes with the party's philosophy of local solutions for local problems since she is completely a stranger for Nagpur, Damania said, "The party feels some people need to be taken head on. And Gadkari being a poster boy of corruption is one such man. We had Kejriwal himself taking on Sheila Dixit and will have Kumar Vishwas against Rahul Gandhi. The other political parties believe in setting things up for their candidates. Like they will have heavyweights to fight against weaker candidates. We think exactly the opposite way."
