Ahead of SAD meeting, unemployed linemen, TET unions warn protest

With the stage set for the political conferences at Chappar Mela, SAD leaders are exercising extra caution as the unemployed linemen and the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) pass unions have threatened to protest inside the SAD venue, and even outside it, against their pending demands.

The SAD leaders have already asked for extra police arrangements, while deploying their own volunteers to keep a check on the protesters.

Peermal Singh, president of the unemployed linemen union said," We had a meeting with PSPCL on August 8 in which no fruitful results came. We have decided to lodge our protest in every SAD conference once again."

The linemen are demanding jobs for the 4,000 persons who had cleared the test but remained unemployed. Similarly, the TET pass union states that even they have not been given appointment letters despite clearing the test.

Dakha MLA Manpreet Ayali, who is taking care

of arrangements for the SAD conference, said,"Our volunteers are also on

the job and we will manage everything in a peaceful manner."

Ayali stated that they have a huge pandal with capacity of about 15,000 persons, while the Congress venue has an arrangement of about 10,000 persons.

Jassi Khangura, former Congress MLA, who is in-charge of Congress conference arrangements, said, "Our party will give facts and figures about the government's misdeeds and false propaganda in the name of development. We are expecting people from far-flung areas and this conference is an important stage for Congress to reach out to the masses."
