No case has been registered, as doctors attending to Jaswant Singh said he was not in a position to record his statement."

When asked, Karamjit said: "My uncle had got married in 1994 but had no children, so he was having some mental problem, which is very minor in nature. He was undergoing treatment."

Surinder, when contacted, said he had just finished morning prayers when he heard someone knocking on the door. "It was around 5 am. I went to the roof with my revolver and saw this man, who had entered the house by scaling the wall. On seeing me, he tried to flee. When I came down and asked him to stop, he started coming towards me. My father warned me the person did not appear to be normal. As he kept approaching me, I fired three shots in air but he still kept on coming towards me. He also picked up a brick and tried to hurl it at me. I fired towards his hand to injure him. Then we overpowered him, tied him with a rope," he said.
