Akhil Australia Marathi Sammelan from March 29

Marathi Association Sydney Inc (MASI) announced their triennial national convention Akhil Australia Marathi Sammelan from March 29 to 31 on Friday. The three-day Marathi convention will be organised in Sydney for local, inter-state and international Marathi-speaking citizens. Every three years, during the Easter break, starting on Easter Friday, all Marathi-speaking people are invited to congregate in Sydney or Melbourne to attend the national convention.

"We are expecting visitors from all over Australian cities, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and India. It is expected to be the largest gathering of more than 1,800 Marathi-speaking people in the southern hemisphere," said the organisers said during a press meet in the city. As many as 450 local artists will present different performances based on various themes in groups. Marathi actor Prashant Damle will perform in the play Sasu Majhi Dhasu. Swapnil Bandodkar's musical programme will also be one of the highlights of the event.

MASI, a non-profit community organisation, aims to integrate Marathi-speaking migrants into mainstream Australian society while maintaining the Marathi culture. The Marathi population within Australia is growing at a rapid rate with a greater portion occupying influential positions in businesses.
