Alok Mittal is Gurgaon’s new police chief: Crime prevention and control top priority

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal on Wednesday said crime prevention and control will be his top priority, along with making the Gurgaon police more transparent and responsive.

Previously posted as Inspector General of Police in Rohtak Range, Mittal served as Joint Commissioner of Police in Gurgaon one-and-a-half years ago.

Mittal said he is aware of the security and policing problems faced by Gurgaon residents. He made an appeal to them to call the police control room number 100 or 1091 (women's helpline) to make complaints and to not be tense or fearful about approaching the police for help.

"A receipt will be given in lieu of complaints. The complainant will be informed about the chargesheet by the SHO concerned via SMS. Measures will be undertaken to provide better traffic management and in case of a problem there will be quick response," Mittal said.

He plans to introduce a public helpline at the Commissioner's office where one can enquire about the status of his FIR and complain if an FIR was not registered. This is line will be functional during working hours only.

The commissioner plans to visit each police station and checkpost for an inspection.

"We will focus on economic offences and cyber crime as they are prevalent in Gurgaon and not other parts of the state. Since they are non-violent offences, FIRs will be registered only after conducting quick preliminary enquiry," Mittal said.

He also said he would ensure that the Private Security Agencies followed the rules and regulations issued by the government.

Promoting e-communication to create efficiency, Mittal added that he would make the Gurgaon police website more communicative and have officers communicate via SMSs.
