Army havaldar shoots himself

Jagmohan Singh, a resident of Chet Singh Nagar who was employed as a havaldar with the Army, committed suicide on Thursday morning by shooting himself in the head. He used his service rifle and the bullet pierced through his head.

As per the havaldar's family, Jagmohan had been under mental stress for quiet some time owing to a family dispute with his wife.

ACP Mukhtiar Singh and SHO Jaswinder Singh reached the spot immediately and rushed Jagmohan to nearby Christian Medical College and Hospital, but he could not be saved.

Jagdev Singh, the brother of the deceased, told the police that Jagmohan had come on annual leave and had been at home for almost a month. He was to leave to join his duty in Guwahati in the afternoon on Thursday. He had called his sister to come and meet him before he left. "Jagmohan's wife had been living with her parents for quiet some time now. She had even taken their two sons along with them. My brother was under immense mental pressure due to this dispute and was not too well of late. After eating his breakfast this morning, Jagmohan went back into his room. A few minutes later, we heard this loud noise. As I rushed into the room, I saw my brother lying in a pool of blood. We took him to the hospital but could not save him," added Jagdev.
