President may be PGIMER
convocation chief guest
CHANDIGARH: President Pranab Mukherjee is likely to be the chief guest at the 33rd convocation of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. Significantly, it will be his first visit to the city after he took over as the President of India. The convocation will be held on March 15. The officials of the institute on Wednesday received confirmation from his office regarding his visit. The President will bestow gold medals for outstanding research works. It is also expected that he will award more than 350 students their degrees.
Murder accused says falsely implicated by police
PANCHKULA: An accused in a murder case who has been declared a juvenile has told the court that the police falsely implicated him in the case and that he was kept illegally in judicial custody. The juvenile, Babloo, says he was falsely implicated in the murder involving a girl in the Mansa Devi complex area in 2011. Babloo was brought before the court on Monday and he pointed out that he was a juvenile at the time of the murder and has been kept along with hardened criminals in a common prison. Babloo had said before the court that at the time of occurrence of the murder on 19 October 2011, he was below 18 years of age as his date of birth is 4 March 1995.
Police arrest impersonators at exam
CHANDIGARH: UT Police arrested three persons cheating in an examination for the post of a typist. The examination was being held at the Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 23. The police were called when it was discovered at the entry of the examination hall that the documents produced by the accused for the candidate were mismatched.The accused have been identified as Kirpal Singh, resident of Palwal and Sanjay Kumar a, resident of Hisar were arrested along with another accused, Ram Mehar, who had asked Sanjay to give the examination for him. The three were produced in a local court and were sent to judicial custody.
