August respite for Punjab, Haryana
Punjab and Haryana received near normal rainfall as the monsoon picked up pace in the region during August bringing down the overall rain deficit, the MeT department said. The rain deficiency, which hovered at 70 per cent for Haryana and Punjab has now been reduced to 42 per cent for Haryana, 55 per cent for Punjab and 21 per cent for Chandigarh.
Punjab fund of Rs 2113.09 cr for SCs
Chandigarh: Punjab Minister for SC/BC Welfare Gulzar Singh Ranike announced that the Punjab government has allocated a dedicated fund of Rs 2,113.09 crore for the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and EWS. Of the total found Rs 1284.62 crore will be spent on welfare schemes while the remaining will be used for basic infrastructure.
Punjab to widen all roads along canals
Chandigarh: With a view to upgrade the existing road network in Punjab, the state government has decided to widen all roads along canals for better commuting facilities, especially to the rural commuters. PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that construction work on prominent routes like Ropar-Neelon-Doraha canal-side has already begun.
Speed governors a must in Punjab
Chandigarh: In order to curb the speed limit of medium and heavy goods and passenger vehicles, the Punjab government has decided to fix speed governors to all such vehicles. A state government spokesperson said that orders have already been issued to all transport vehicle owners to get speed governors installed by an approved authorized agency.
