Following frequent clashes between the drivers of auto-rickshaws and that of Green Auto Service, known as G-Auto, over picking passengers at the SVP International Airport, authorities have taken up the issue with the city traffic police.
Auto-rickshaw drivers allege that the airport authorities are giving preferential treatment to G-Auto by allowing them parking space at the arrival terminal while not extending them the same facility. They say G-Auto has established a monopoly as a result while they are deprived of business.
Traffic police plead helplessness, saying it is up to airport authorities to make rules about allowing autos in the terminus area.
Ahmedabad airport director Anuj Agrawal said G-Autos have been allowed since they run on meters. "Common autos charge whatever they wish. Also, they literally force the passengers into their autos and so they are not allowed to pick passengers from arrival," he said.
