Although Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday said he was not aware if Kartar Singh Sarabha was still not a national martyr, he had made a similar statement last year as well when he had come to this village.
"I will take up this matter with the Centre and will make every possible effort to get a national martyr status for Gadar leader Sarabha whose heroic tales are still a source of inspiration for many," he said while paying homage to Sarabha on his martyrdom day here.
Interestingly, similar was the CM's reply even last year when he had come to this village. After a year, he again expressed his ignorance about this fact.
Though rich tributes were paid to the martyr at the site of memorial, no one visited his ancestral house.
Under an RTI application, Sehajdhari Sikh Sabha had sought information from the Home Ministry if Kartar Singh Sarabha was not yet a national martyr. After that, they had taken up the matter with the CM and even other departments as well, but nothing positive has happened in this direction so far.
In a related development, the Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Memorial Trust, which is managing various projects of this village, have sought funds for renovation of the basketball ground of the village. The CM asked the trust to make a project file about this.
MLA Manpreet Ayali demanded that the state government declare a holiday on November 16, and asked for Rs 25 lakh for village streets.
