The BJP has asked all media coordinators and spokespersons of state units to become proactive and aggressively promote Narendra Modi as its star in the run up to elections.
At a meeting of BJP media coordinators and spokespersons of all states held in New Delhi on Saturday, senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Ravi Prasad and Rajnath Singh gave "tips" to over 300 members of various BJP media cells on how to corner the Congress governments.
The media coordinators were also told to extensively use or "swamp" social media with the issues that BJP raises and promote BJP-ruled states as models. "Discussions were held on how to react to Congress propaganda, raise issues that corner the Congress, and how our media cells can play a more proactive role and make BJP more visible in all the states," said a media coordinator from the BJP's Andhra Pradesh unit.
"BJP media cells will be fully active now and become very aggressive" said state BJP spokesperson N Ramchander Rao.
Modi asked spokespersons to set the agenda for debate and avoid getting trapped the Congress's attempts to divert the agenda. "Congress tries to hide its failure and divert popular attention. But, we must put forth Congress' misdeeds before the public," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said briefing reporters about Modi's message.
The party delegates were provided with material highlighting Congress-led UPA government's failure on economy, internal security and governance related issues. The material also highlighted the achievements of Vajpayee-led NDA regime and party-ruled states to contrast BJP's good governance record with that of alleged misgovernance of the UPA government.
BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said Swaraj and Jaitley also stressed the need to maintain decorum and urged party members not to indulge in "tu-tu, main-main" duel with the Congress .
Also media cells and coordinators were asked to promote Modi as their main leader and refer to him as the future leader of the country. A meeting of state, city and district presidents will be held Sunday in Delhi. BJP president Rajnath Singh, Modi and Venkaiah Naidu oversee the activation of media cells.
