BPO employee commits suicide, wife in ICU after suicide attempt

A 28-year-old BPO employee allegedly committed suicide while his 25-year-old wife attempted suicide at their family residence in Thergaon on Friday morning. Police said the reason behind the extreme step was unclear.

Police have identified the deceased as Ratnesh Subhash Pandey of Kanhaiyya Park in Thergaon. Police said he was employed with a multinational BPO in Hinjewadi. His wife Kalpana (25), a homemaker, is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital at Kalewadi Phata.

Hinjewadi police said the family is originally from Uttar Pradesh and has been staying in Pune for the last 20 years. Ratnesh and Kalpana got married since last seven years and have a five-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter.

Senior inspector Satish Devre of Hinjewadi police station said, "Ratnesh went to his night shift at work on Thursday night and returned on Friday morning. He went to the bedroom on the second floor of the house and hanged himself from the ceiling. Later, Kalpana went to another bedroom on the ground floor and tried to kill herself by hanging from the ceiling."

The incident came to light after Ratnesh's sister tried to call both of them but got no response. They were rushed to the hospital. "He was declared dead on arrival, while she is critical," Devre said, added, "As of now, the reason is not very clear but we suspect some differences within the family."
