Veteran journalist Borua dies at 75

Guwahati: Profulla Chandra Borua, a veteran Guwahati-based journalist and former editor of Dainik Asam and Dainik Janambhumi, passed away here on Monday in a private hospital following protracted illness. He was 75. Borua, who began his career as a reporter with Natun Asomiya in 1963, soon rose to become editor of Janambhumi (weekly) in 1969 and then of Dainik Janambhumi in 1972. ENS

Woman, 2 girls charred to death

Kanpur: A woman and her two minor children were charred to death following a fire in their house in Dalelpura village of the district, the police said on Monday. Sudha Kathiyar (28) and her daughters Prachi (7) and Nancy (6) were charred to death after the roof of their home caught fire and fell on them when the victim was cooking dinner, the police said.The bodies were taken out after the villagers managed to doused the fire. Two villagers also suffered burn injuries while trying to save them. PTI
