Gram panchayat polls on March 29

Mumbai:Elections to 459 gram panchayats in the state will be held on March 29. State Election Commission said people whose names figured in electoral rolls on January 15, 2012, would be eligible for voting. Filing of nominations will start on March 9 and end on March 14. Scrutiny of papers will be done on March 15. Nominations can be withdrawn till March 18, after which election symbols will be allocated to candidates the same day. The gram panchayats going to polls include 17 in Thane district, Raigad (35), Ratnagiri (2), Sindhudurg (1), Nashik (3), Dhule (1), Ahmednagar (16), Jalgaon (60), Pune (75), Solapur (14), Satara (84), Sangli (54), Kolhapur (24), Aurangabad (9), Beed (19), Nanded (5), Jalna (1), Latur (1), Akola (1), Yavatmal (25), Wardha (9), Chandrapur (2) and Gadchiroli (1).

Court nod for trial against Jundal

Nashik:A local court has granted permission to start trial against alleged LeT operative and Mumbai terror attack accused Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal in a special district and sessions court in the case of conspiracy to attack Maharashtra Police Academy. The order was passed by district and sessions judge K K Tantrapale Thursday, special public prosecutor Ajay Misar told reporters. Jundal is lodged in Mumbai jail in connection with another case.
