CBSE exam schedule for Class X, XII out

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education on Tuesday released the schedule for Class X and XII board exams to be conducted in March 2012. About 8 lakh students across the country will take the exam for the academic year 2011-12. The exams will begin from March 1 for both Class X and Class XII and will end on March 26 for the former and on March 29 for the latter. Students will be examined in 55 papers at the class X level, while in class XII, students will take exams in 181 papers.

Canadian gets 8 months in jail for carrying drugs

NEW Delhi: A Delhi court has sentenced a Canadian national to eight months in jail after he was found in possession of narcotic substances at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him. The convict, Joseph Emil Sabbagh, had taken a flight from Mumbai to London on March 19, 2011. En route, he fell sick and had to get off at the IGI Airport for a check-up. He was taken to the Medanta Medical Centre as just as he was being brought back to the security hold area after his medical examination, security guards found four drug pouches, containing 95 gm of charas and 90 gm heroin, tucked in his socks. Sabbagh pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted.

SC notice to GNOIDA, UP on land acquisition row

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to Uttar Pradesh government and Greater NOIDA authority on a petition filed by a group of farmers challenging the acquisition of their agricultural land by the authorities in Garhi Bachchera village of Gautam Budh Nagar district. The petition pleaded "mindless acquisition" of agriculture land would lead to a food crisis in the country. The bench sought a response from the authorities within four weeks.
