CHB employees protest ‘delay’ in implementation of pension scheme
Stating that the Chandigarh Administration has been delaying implementing the Pension Scheme, employees of Chandigarh Housing Board Employees Co-ordination Committee (CHBECC) staged a day-long dharna to protest the 'delay' on Friday.
The protesters said that while the pay, allowances, duties and responsibilities of CHB employees are the same as that of other employees of the Chandigarh Administration, they, however, are being deprived of the pension benefit.
It amounts to wanton discrimination of one against another which is not sustainable in law, rather violate of the existing constitutional provisions, they alleged.
On February 4, the issue of grant of pension to retired and serving employees of Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) was deliberated in the open darbar of UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil, where he categorically ordered senior officers of Chandigarh Administration that "CHB is an independent body and if they have the requisite funds to cater to the needs of its presently serving and retired employees then the Administration will certainly accord its approval."
The protesters said that a pension scheme for CHB employees was approved by the 'Board of Directors' in 2009 and added that necessary funds for the pension were being provided in the CHB Budget.
Therefore, CHBECC wants the chairman of the board and the Administration not to delay further in the implementation of Pension Scheme.
