CM hints at nod for Ambedkar memorial before Dec 6

The state government said Sunday it was ready to construct a memorial for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Indu Mill even if the Centre retained ownership of the land.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan was confident of early central government nod for the project. "If the central government wants to keep ownership of the land, it is okay with us."

Chavan said the memorial would be constructed after consulting a committee of top central and state government officials formed to work out modalities. He said the Prime Minister had directed the committee and the state government to sort out issues regarding coastal regulations.

Asked whether the central nod was expected before December 6, Ambedkar's death anniversary, Chavan said, "There is no need to wait till December 6. The decision will be taken soon."
