The only independent councillor in the Municipal Corporation, Gurcharan Dass Kala, seems to be ensuring that his relations with both the Congress and BJP remain cordial in the run up to the Mayoral elections. Waiting for the Master Blaster
Sachin Tendulkar's fans in the region will miss him when the Indian team takes on England in the fourth ODI match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on January 23. But within a month, his fans will be overjoyed when Sachin will be seen in action against Australia in a Test match to be played in the first week of March in Mohali. With the Master Blaster announcing his retirement from the ODIs, his loyal fans in the region went into shock and distress. His fans will also have something to cheer for when Mumbai Indians led by Tendulkar come down to Mohali to play an IPL match in April.

The recent rape incident which shook the entire nation, sparking off nation wide protests and debates turned out to have an indirect beneficial effect. For one, the UT police stepped up security in the city and also got serious about protecting females in the society, be it outside the discotheques or the restaurants etc. In fact, the cases of eve-teasing which would be otherwise brushed inside the carpet are now being taken seriously. "There is always something good in whatever happens. The girl is no more but her death has invoked a positive response from all quarters," quipped a senior official.
