Cold wave continues to sweep state, 1 dead

Cold wave continues to sweep various parts of the state with the minimum temperature going down to 3.4 degrees Celsius at Naliya in Kutch while Ahmedabad recorded minimum temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

State Meteorological Department officials said the extreme weather conditions will continue to prevail across the state for another three days.

The minimum temperature in Vadodara was recorded at 11.3 degrees Celsius while in Surat, mercury plummeted to 13 degree Celsius.

"While temperatures in southern and northern parts of the state have been recorded to be below normal for the last couple of days, cold waves will continue to prevail till Friday. The temperature is expected to fall below normal for next two to three days," said Manorama Mohanty, meteorologist at Ahmedabad's Meteorological Centre.

Meanwhile, two labourers were killed when the fire they lit to keep themselves warm from the biting cold spread and an elderly man died due to the chilly conditions which gripped Saurashtra and Kutch region. The temperature dipped below seven degrees Celsius in the region today.

While the labourers were charred at Gandhidham in Kutch district, an unidentified old man was found dead near Bhavnagar.
