Cong MP from Kerala plotted murder bid on CPM man, says party worker

Putting the Congress in a spot, a block-level party leader in Kannur on Saturday alleged that party state general secretary and MP K Sudhakaran was the conspirator behind a 16-year-old murder attempt on CPM central committee member E P Jayarajan.

The local leader, Prasanth Babu, who had been Sudhakaran's driver in the past, said the latter had hired killer gangs to target CPM in Kannur during his term as the party district secretary in early 1990s. Jayarajan was shot at aboard a train in Andhra Pradesh in 1995. The names of Sudhakaran and rebel Marxist leader M V Raghavan had figured in the FIR, but the Andhra police dropped their names in the chargesheet. In 2011, an Andhra court sentenced accused K Dineshan to life term. Another accused was killed during the trial.

Seeking a direction to the court to order a probe into the conspiracy behind the murder attempt, Jayarajan has moved the Supreme Court where the plea is still pending.

Reacting to the disclosure, Sudhakaran said: "I am ready to face any probe. He (Babu) had got huge money from the CPM to make the allegation. Babu had been with me as a driver only for a month," he said.
