Cong officebearers get tips for 2014 poll test

Senior functionaries of the Maharashtra Congress, numbering around 100, on Saturday went back to classroom to prepare for the 2014 elections. The daylong workshop was part of the Congress gameplan to prepare its officebearers for the rough and tumble of the upcoming elections and train them in putting across performance of the Congress-led government in a positive manner to voters.

"Most of our policies are criticized by the opposition just for the sake of it. However, many people are taken in by this misinformation. The seminar was to prepare our cadres in such a way that they are in a position to portray the true picture of our policies and our work," Congress state president Manikrao Thakre said.

The briefing of the state functionaries was held in the pristine and calm confines of Aarey Colony by party stalwarts like Finance Minister P Chidambaram, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Union Minister for Minority Affairs K Rahman Khan.

All the ministers explained to them different government policies including those on allocation of natural resources as well as programmes run for minorities.

The Maharashtra Congress is planning a seminar of all state level functionaries on December 28, the day the first INC session was held in 1885.
