Cong’s 9th point out, is a list of sops for minorities

In a bid to win over minority voters, the state Congress on Thursday announced to implement the Sachar Committee recommendations, set up a separate department for minority affairs, a state commission and build a new Haj House, if the party came to power after the December elections.

GPCC president Arjun Modhwadia, Congress Legislature Party leader Shaktisinh Gohil and party's election campaign committee chairman Shankersinh Vaghela announced this as the ninth point in the party's 12-point Gujarat Praja Vikas Darshan-2012.

Declaring that the party would implement the prime minister's 15-point programme for uplift of minorities, they said they would grant minority status to all such educational institutions in minority areas.

The party has included Jains, besides Muslims, Buddha, Christians, Parsis and Sikhs, among the minorities.

The party also announced to set up a separate financial development corporation to be named after Maualan Abul Kalam Azad to promote self-employment among the minority youth.

They said the party would set up a state madrasa board for a uniform education in state's madrasas and open new grant-in-aid schools in minority-dominated areas having no schooling facilities.
