Cop harassment: Car traced not the one used by three youths

While the UT police is yet to make any arrests in the case in which one of its constables was sexually harassed by three youngsters on Thursday morning, there is another twist in the tale. The registration number of the car which was given to the police by the complainant was traced to Dera Bassi. But the car was not the same which was being driven by the three youths.

Though the police doubt that the number is not correct, constable Sukhraj Singh, the complainant in the case in which the accused outraged the modesty of his constable wife and assaulted him, is sure about the number.

"I am very sure about the number of the car. I have not made any mistake (in noting the number). But the car which was traced by the police to Dera Bassi is not the one which was being driven by the accused," said Sukhraj, who is posted in the commando force of the operations cell.

A police officer said the number that the complainant had noted (CH-44T-4663) was a temporary number which was transferred to someone else with the same car in April 2012. "There is a possibility that the people who were driving the car had not changed the number plate," he said.

The Sector 26 SHO, Inspector Anokh Singh, said, "We are probing the matter. The car which was recovered from Dera Bassi is not the same car. We are hunting for the accused and their car."

Sukhraj said that he had badly beaten up one of the accused. "After the scuffle, I started calling the Police Control Room. Then the three accused sat in the car and fled," he added.

Later, the complainant also approached the Traffic Lines in Sector 29 to view the CCTV footage of Madhya Marg. "I went to Traffic Lines but the cameras were not working on that road," he said.
