Councillor, husband and son arrested
The police have arrested Jind-based Congress councillor Ram Rati, her husband Darshan Singh and their son Bhupinder for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to assault a Dalit couple on January 28, leading to the death of the woman, Malho Devi (68). Her husband Tara Chand was seriously injured in the attack.
The Jind district police arrested the three late on Tuesday night after interrogating them for over 20 hours. Inspector General of Police (Hisar Range) A S Chawla said, "Darshan Singh, his wife Ram Rati and their son Bhupinder have been arrested. Investigations are on and raids are being conducted to arrest the other accused involved in the incident."
The accused planned to attack the couple with an intention to grab their plot, on which they had been living for the past few years. "We have produced the three accused in court, which remanded them in police custody for three days. We will interrogate them thoroughly to find out the whereabouts of the remaining accused," said Azad Singh, SHO of City Narwana police station in Jind.
