Court allows eunuch to be guardian of late brotherís kids

A court here has appointed an eunuch as the legal guardian of the three orphaned children of his brother.

The eunuch has been taking care of these three minors, all in school, since the death of their parents.

According to details, Rajesh Bhatwar (45), a resident of Saiyedpura who worked as a peon, died of cardiac arrest on December 26, 2009, leaving behind his three children and wife Kala Bhatwar.

Three years later, Kala also died.

Rajesh's younger brother Govind Bhatwar, who is an eunuch, took the three children ó Dharmishta (16), Nitesh (14) and Divya (11) ó under his care.

Kala's sister Savita, who lacked financial resources to bring up the children, agreed to give their custody to Govind, who then filed a plea before an additional sessions court in Surat seeking to become the legal guardian of these children. Savita also submitted an affidavit in the court stating that Govind had no financial problems and could take better care of the children. The court also listened to the children who expressed their wish to stay with their uncle.

On Friday, additional sessions judge D G Thakker passed an order appointing Govind as the legal guardian of the three children.

Govind said, "I am very happy. I have no one left in my family. The three are children of my elder brother and I can take good care of them. I will give them best education."

While Dharmishta is awaiting her SSC results, Nitesh and Divya studying in classes VIII and V respectively in a private school.
