Court told Aarushi room panel repainted

The CBI on Friday produced two prosecution witnesses a painter and a security guard at the Ghaziabad court in the case against Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, who are being tried for the murder of their teenaged daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008.

Sohrat, a painter, told the court of Additional Sessions Judge Shyam Lal that Rajesh Talwar hired him to repaint the wood panel between the rooms of Aarushi and her parents a year-and-a-half after the murder. He said he was also told to remove the iron grills outside the main entrance and balcony of the house.

The removal of the grills and the painting of the walls were one of the reasons for the Talwar couple being charged under Section 201/34 (destruction of evidence with common intention).

The second witness was Virender Singh, the guard on duty at Jalvayu Vihar Gate Number 1 on the night of the murder on May 15, 2008.

"When I was in the house, there were six to seven persons inside, none of whom were crying. On the night of the murder, I didn't notice any suspicious activity in the colony," he told the court.

Lawyers for Talwars contested the guard's claim that he had not noticed anything suspicious on that night.
