Dabholkar murder: City cops pick up two persons from Goa

In a possible breakthrough in the probe into the murder of anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar, two men were picked up from old Goa on Friday evening by a Pune police team.

The two have been identified as Mangesh Chaudhury and Rasul Ansari from Mumbai. Goa DIG O P Mishra confirmed the detention, but declined to share details.

Meanwhile, three months after his death, threats continue to haunt Dabholkar's family and friends. While his son and daughter have received threat letters, Akshay Bhosale, a supporter of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulaan Sammittee (MANS), has allegedly received threat phone calls.

Mukta Patwardhan, daughter of the slain activist, said that a month ago, a senior MANS activist had received a threat letter. "The letter was received in Sangli and was posted from Kolhapur.

Mukta said the police hadtraced the letter to a 60-year-old person from Kagal. "The police told usthe man was mentally unstable and have been writing such letters on and off. They told us that the person was taken into custody and then released after suitable action," she said. Meanwhile, Akshay Bhosale, a young Warkari member of MANS from Mumbai, has allegedly started receiving threats after he attended the rally in support of the anti-superstition Bill. "Bhosale, in an online discussion on the Bill, had managed to win support from many people from the community. On Thursday, he got a call threatening him with dire consequences if he continued to canvass for the Bill," she said.

Bhosale said he had approached the police and was given police protection. "Police officers have told me that they are just a call away and have asked me to be careful about my movement," he said.
