Day after, Sovan keeps dissension lid open

A day after Chief Minster and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee spoke to chief whip Sovandeb Chattopadhyay by acknowledging his "good work" that led the party to claim that the grievances of the rebel MLA has been "settled", Chattopadhyay on Friday said he has not given up his fight.

The veteran Trinamool MLA, who is associated with the party since its inception, is up in arms against a section of party leaders after he was attacked by supporters belonging to a rival group of his party. He demanded that the party must condemn the incident failing which he will be forced to think on severing his association with the party. But his demand has not been fulfilled yet.

On Thursday, Mamata met Chattopadhyay at her Assembly chamber and tried to convince him saying that he was "discharging his duty satisfactorily" but she did not utter single word on the incident. "During the closed-door meeting, the chief minister praised Chattopadhyay saying that he was doing good work and advised him to continue doing it, but she did not say anything about the incident which hurt not only Chattopadhyay but his thousands of followers. Chattopadhyay again aired his voice before the CM who chose to remain silent. Chattopadhyay demanded again that the party should condemn the incident. But the party chief did not make any comment," a close associate of Chattopadhyay told The Indian Express.

"We are still aggrieved. If a leader like Chattopadhyay is humiliated, nothing can be more shameful for the party," the leader said. When asked if he has sorted out the differences with the party during the meeting with the CM, Chattopadhyay said: "I have been asked not to air my grievance in public and not to speak to the media. So I am not commenting whether the dispute has been resolved."
