Delhi gangrape-effect? None whatsoever! More rapes mar India

Even as the entire country is on the boil over the horrific gangrape and subsequent death of the Delhi gangrape victim and security forces are on top alert, instances of rape across the country show no sign of declining as is indicated by the numerous cases of the crime that have been lodged today.

Woman molested at New Year bash in Mumbai

A 29-year-old married woman was allegedly molested by a drunken man while celebrating the New Year at a beach crowded with revellers in suburban Juhu, police said on Tuesday.

The accused was subsequently arrested, they said.

The victim and her husband were celebrating at the Juhu Chowpatty as the New Year ushered in. Around 1.30 am, the accused, Hyder Ali, who was a part of the crowd at the beach, touched the victim inappropriately, police said.

"Her husband immediately reported the incident to policemen deployed at the beach," said Arun Chavan, senior inspector of Santacruz police station.

The accused was subsequently caught and taken to police station, where he was arrested for molesting the woman and charged under section 354 of the IPC.

Ali was produced before a local court today where he was granted bail.

Minor girl sexually assaulted in Pune

A minor girl was sexually assaulted by an unidentified person in the suburban Hadapsar area on Tuesday, police said.

The six-year-old was found lying in an open ground after the alleged incident and was taken to hospital, police said adding that no arrest had been made.

The victim, who stayed with her mother in a slum colony, had left her house in the morning.

She was admitted to a government hospital and was reported to be out of danger.

Investigations were on in the case, they added.

Married woman gang-raped in J-K

Jammu: In yet another incident of gangrape, a married woman belonging to a lower caste was allegedly raped by three men in Rajouri district of the state.

"The victim from Noushera belt of Rajouri district reported the matter yesterday. Subsequently, a case was registered and the three accused arrested within the shortest possible time," Senior Superintendent of Police (Rajouri) Mubasir Latifee said.

As per the victim's statement recorded before the Judicial Magistrate, three persons Madan Lal, Aasa Ram and Mohmmad Rafeeq forcibly took her to an empty shop when she was on her way to fetch water a few days ago and raped her there.

The trio had threatened to kill her and her husband if she told about the incident to anyone, the SSP said.

After hiding the matter for a few days, the woman eventually shared it with her family, who along with leaders of the lower caste community rushed to the police and filed a complaint.

A case was registered and medical examination of the woman has also been carried out, the SSP said.

Panchayat member accused of raping 15-year-old girl

Bulandshahr: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a Zila Panchayat member in a village in bulandshahr.

The victim's father lodged a police complaint yesterday, alleging that his daughter was forcefully taken on a motorcycle by two men, Vinod and Krushna, on December 29 in Moharsa village and handed her over to Zila Panchayat member Ravindra Lodhi in nearby Mubarakpur village, police said on Tuesday.

Lodhi, who had contested MLA elections in 2012 from Anoopshahr area, allegedly kept the girl captive for one day and raped her, police said.

The three have been taken into custody and investigations are on into the allegations, police said, adding the girl's medical report is awaited.

20-yr-old girl stalked and harassed by man commits suicide

Akola: A 20-year-old girl committed suicide after being allegedly stalked and harassed by a man, police said on Tuesday.

One Chandrakant Borkar (30) had allegedly been harassing the girl by passing comments on her and stalking her for the last two years, police said.

He also used to make phone calls to her, police said adding the girl had informed her father sometime ago about the alleged harassment.

Disturbed by harassment by the man, the girl hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her home in Bhagirathwadi area of the city last night, police said.

Based on a complaint filed by the deceased's father, police have registered a case against the accused under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

A search has been launched for Borkar who is at large, they added.

Youth gets 10-years rigorous imprisonment for raping minor

Akola: A person was sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment by a local court for raping a 14-year-old girl repeatedly on the premise of marrying her, resulting in pregnancy.

The sentence was handed out yesterday by fast track court judge P M Divte, who also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the accused in the 2010 case.

The incident took place in village Mandva in Mehkan taluka of Buldhana when accused Ravindra Lekurwale allegedly raped the minor promising to marry her but went back on his words.

Later, when the girl got pregnant, her parents disowned her. She gave birth to baby boy at a remand home, where she is presently put up.

The trial began on October 11 last year and as many as 14 witnesses were examined before the youth was convicted.

Man murders girl; angry villagers lynch him

Chikmagalur: A suspected mentally challenged man allegedly murdered a three-year-old girl in Billur village in Karnataka's Chikmagalur district and, in turn, was lynched by angry locals today, police said.

Initially, police said, the culprit Naron Prakash gained entry into an house and picked up a girl and started to flee. But a boy threw stones at him, forcing him to drop her.

Later, he picked up a three-year-old girl who was playing outside her house. He threatened those who tried to chase him with an iron rod and in the melee, two motorcyclists were injured, police said.

He later ran into a shop, ransacked it and when some locals surrounded him, he allegedly smashed the girl to the ground, killing her, police said.

Angry villagers allegedly beat Prakash to death, sources said.

Prakash had reportedly come to Billur from Balehonnur in the district to work as a labourer.

23-yr-old woman found dead at classmate's house

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old student of Osmania University was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the house of her classmate in Chatrinaka area of Old City here, police said today.

The young woman was suspected to have been strangled to death last night. Her body has been sent for postmortem, they said.

The body was found lying at the house of Shiv Kumar, who is a Ph.D student at the Osmania University, police said.

Chatrinaka Police said Shiv Kumar was absconding since the incident.

An autopsy was being conducted on the girl's body and only after the report more details will be clear about the incident, police added.

Mentally challenged girl raped

Bangalore: A 17-year-old mentally-challenged teenaged girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour at Machanayakanahalli here, police said today.

Prakash, a lorry driver, was arrested today, DySP R Mallesh said.

Prakash allegedly raped the girl yesterday after taking her out of the house, Mallesh said.

A case was registered after the victim's relatives lodged a complaint.

Incidents of rape have been reported in Karnataka over the past few days amid continuing national outrage against sexual attacks on women.

Spurned lover attacks girlfriend, attempts suicide

Thane: A jilted lover allegedly attacked a girl with a blade and later consumed poison in Kopri area of Thane city, police said today.

While the 25-year-old woman was returning home fromwork at around 9.45 PM yesterday, her male friend Narendra Kave - confronted her near the railway bridge crossing and slashed several of her body parts with a blade, police said.

Later, in an attempt to end his own life, Kave, also around 25 years of age, consumed poison.

Both were residents of Kopri colony in Thane and the woman had broken off with the accused sometime back.

Both of them have been hospitalised and were reported to be out of danger, police said.

An offence under section 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered against the accused. Further investigation was on.

Man arrested for raping minor cousin

Jammu: A man has been arrested from the outskirts of Jammu for allegedly raping his 13-year-old cousin, police said today.

Mukesh Kumar alias Monu was arrested from Jammu General Bus stand as he landed in the city from Ludhiana in Punjab last night, police said.

The victim's father had lodged a complaint on December 17 that his minor daughter had been raped by her cousin on December 12, they said.

The victim's medical examination was conducted and her statement was recorded before the judicial magistrate.

Special police teams were constituted by SDPO Domana, Sandeep Mehta to apprehend the accused, who had taken shelter in Ludhiana, they said.

Kumar was nabbed when he came here and taken into custody for further investigation, they said.

Girl raped by youth

Siddharth Nagar (UP): A girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Etwah area of the district, police said today.

The girl was raped by Jarar last night when she had gone out for some work, police said.

An FIR has been lodged and a special team constituted to nab the accused, they said.

Girl gangraped 9 months back delivers baby, files complaint

Mumbai: Police have launched an investigation after a teenaged girl, who recently delivered a baby, lodged a complaint that she was allegedly raped by three men nine months back in the neighbouring Thane district.

Police today said an FIR was registered on Saturday after the victim complained to city's Bhoiwada police that she was allegedly raped by three persons in a car after being kidnapped by them nine months ago at Kansai in Ambarnath township of Thane district.

On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the victim delivered a baby boy at KEM hospital in Parel, police added.

The case has now been transferred to Vithalwadi police station in Thane as the crime allegedly took place in its jurisdiction.

The alleged offence came to light after the victim was admitted to hospital for delivery on Saturday night and she could not provide the name of her husband to hospital authorities.

The doctors advised her to register a complaint after she revealed that three persons had kidnapped her from near her home and raped her in a car nine months ago, police said.

The accused were booked under relevant IPC sections including 376(2)(g) (gang rape), police said adding that further probe was on.

13-year-old raped

A school girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour at Kattaya village in Karnataka's Hassan district, police said today.

Rangaraju, who took the eighth standard student on his motorcycle following her mother's request to drop her at school, allegedly raped the girl and threatened her not to disclose the incident, police said.

The incident happened on December 18 evening when the girl needed to go to school to go on a study tour, sources said.

Police said a case was registered last night and efforts are on to nab Rangaraju, who is absconding.

20-year-old raped

Jhajjar: A 20-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two youths at Barahi road in Bahadurgarh town, located on the Delhi-Haryana border, around 45 km from here, police said here.

Police have arrested the accused, identified as Anil of Barahi village and Subhash of Bullaheri village, after registering a case of rape against them on the complaint of the victim in this regard.

In her complaint lodged with the police, the victim said the accused allegedly abducted her in a car when she was on a stroll at a park located adjacent to her house in Sector-6 at Bahadurgarh late last night.

The accused took her to an isolated place on the Barahi road and allegedly raped her.

"The medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape hence we have started investigations after nabbing the accused," said Rajeev Deswal, Bahadurgarh DSP, adding that the accused would be produced before court.

Four youths arrested for eve-teasing

Muzaffarnagar: Four youths were arrested for allegedly eve-teasing a student when she was travelling on motorcycle with her brother on Delhi-Dehradun highway near Purkhaji town in the district, police said here today.

Amit, Surender, Pratap, and Gaurav eve-teased the girl from their car, following which the girl's brother called up the police, they said.

The car got stuck in a traffic jam, where the accused were arrested, they said.

12-year-old girl raped in Buldhana district

Akola: A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a middle-aged man at Khamgaon town in Buldhana district, police said on Monday.

The accused Shaikh Hasan Shaikh Hussain (40), a resident of Hari File area, waylaid the class V student on her way to attend nature's call yesterday, they said.

Hussain allegedly took the girl to an isolated spot and sexually assaulted her after offering her a Rs 20 note, police said, adding he dumped her at Jiya Colony after committing the crime.

Following a complaint lodged by the girl's family, police registered an FIR under section 376 (2)(f) (committing rape on a woman when she is under twelve years of age) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Hussain and arrested him.

In another incident, an unidentified person molested a 5-year-old girl at Lohgad village after luring her with chocolate on December 25.

A complaint in this regard was lodged by the victim's mother on December 29, police said.

In a similar incident, a 9-year-old girl was molested in Ural village by an unidentified person, police said, adding the search is on to trace the accused.
