A 13-year-old girl has accused a station house officer in West Delhi of forcing her to strip at the police station where she had gone to complain that she had been gangraped two days earlier.

The SHO, Bhagwan Singh of Uttam Nagar, was suspended on Thursday pending a departmental inquiry.

The girl, who lives in a jhuggi in Uttam Nagar, has told senior police officers that on September 28, she was led from her home by a woman neighbour to a parked car in which four men were sitting. The men allegedly pulled her inside, and after gangraping her at an isolated place, dumped her outside her jhuggi.

The girl has identified the woman who allegedly lured her to the men. On October 1, after she had recovered somewhat, the girl mustered the courage to go to the police. SHO Singh allegedly summoned her and her parents to his room and asked her to narrate the entire incident.

According to the girl, he then told her that she had been imagining things, and that her complaint was bogus. He also allegedly abused the girl's parents.

According to the written complaint filed by the girl to Tejender Luthra, joint commissioner of police (southwestern range), Singh forced the girl to strip, and told her to show him where she had been assaulted.

Following the alleged humiliation, the girl approached the assistant commissioner of police, Tilak Nagar, and the deputy commissioner of police (West) with her complaint against the SHO. The matter was brought to the notice of Police Headquarters, and she was advised to complain to Luthra.

Neither Luthra nor Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi were available for comment.
