Ruling Samajwadi Party's state parliamentary board would meet on May 24 and discuss the party's strategies for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Sources in the SP said the state parliamentary board is likely to discuss the names of the party's possible candidates for the coming by-election to the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency necessitated by the resignation of CM Akhilesh Yadav from this seat. Akhilesh resigned from this seat as MP after taking oath as CM of the state.

The CM's wife Dimple Yadav is considered the most obvious candidate for the Kannauj by-election, the date for which is yet to be announced.

The party's state unit has also called a meeting of its district president on the same say. "The Chief Minister would become very busy after the Assembly session beginning May 28. So, he wants to talk with his party's district presidents at the May 24 meeting," a source in the SP said.

Both meetings are being held for the first time after the SP's victory in the 2012 Assembly elections.
