In a setBaCK to the case against Doon MLA, Ram Kumar Chaudhary, charged with the murder of a 24-year-old girl from Hoshiarpur, four witnesses turned hostile denying giving statements to the police.
The witnesses, Yashpal, Praveen Kumar, Surjeet and Bantu, denied that they gave their mobiles to the MLA and his other associates. The witnesses in their deposition before the court said that they didn't give the statement to the police and their phone numbers were used by other persons known to them including the officials associated with the construction company of Ram Kumar's associate, Gurmeet, who has also been charged for murder and is at present in judicial custody. The police story banks on the investigation that tower locations of Chaudhary's mobile was in the same area where the girl was found murdered last year.
A total of eight witnesses were examined in the court on Thursday including an official witness. One Saroj Rani and another Manoj Kumar who were examined in the case on Thursday, however, told the court that they had not applied for the mobile phones that were procured on their name. This the prosecution, however, said boosted their case as it has been disclosed in the chargesheet that Chaudhary and his associates procured the mobile phones on fake SIM cards that were used in the crime.
One of the official witnesses in the case, ASI, Darshan Kumar, told the court that he had gone to Kullu where he recorded the statement of one Suresh Kumar that he had not applied for any SIM card. Police in the chargesheet mentioned that SIM cards were procurred in the names of Saroj Rani, Manoj Kumar and Suresh. However, Defence counsel, Amandeep Bindra, said that the two witnesses Saroj Rani and Manoj Kumar in their deposition said that they didn't apply for the SIM cards, but it does'nt connect the Chaudhary and his other associates to the crime as they could have been procured by any other person.
