Double delight for Punjabi University fencers

Patiala University women's team claimed the title in the Foil event with a 15-9 win over Kannur University, Kerela in the Fifth All India Inter-University Fencing Championship which began at Multi-Purpose Gymnasium Indoor Hall, Punjabi University on Monday.

Earlier in the semi-final stage, Punjabi University, Patiala registered a 15-5 win over Panjab University, Chandigarh to advance into the finals. In the second semi-final encounter, Kannur University ended the challenge of Anna University, Tamil Nadu with a 15-7 win to sail into the finals.

In the quarter-final stage, hosts Punjabi University, Patiala scored a 15-6 win over Shivaji University, Maharashtra while Kerela University scored a narrow 15-13 win over Manipur University to advance into the semi-finals. It was tough going for Panjab University, Chandigarh as they had to fight hard for a 15-14 win over Osmania University, Andhra Pradesh in the quarter-final stage while Anna University ended the challenge of Calicut University, Kerela with a 15-11 win to book a berth in the semi-final stage.

In the men's Epee event, Punjabi University team bagged the title with a 15-12 win over BM University, Maharashtra. Earlier in the semi-final stage, Punjabi University registered a 15-9 win over Jammu University to book a berth in the finals while BM University, Maharashtra ended the challenge of Kerela University with a 15-14 win. In the quarter-final stage, Punjabi University scored a 15-7 win over Delhi University while Jammu University scored a 15-9 win over SRTM University, Maharashtra. In the third quarter-final match, Kerela University registered a 15-7 win over Anna University, Tamil Nadu while BM University, Maharashtra ended the challenge of Manipur University with a narrow 13-12 win to enter the semi-finals.
