Dwarf twins, high on entertainment quotient, make a stopover in city

Looking at the crowd gathered around them, one would imagine a film star is being mobbed for autographs and photographs. Though dwarf twins Luv and Kush Ramchandra Gaurav have bagged some roles in Marathi films, they don't think it is the stardom that attracts the attention of people wherever they go.

The 3.5-feet-tall twins who are stage comedians with an orchestra based in Daund Gaon were on their way to Bhor when they made a pit stop in Pune and decided to visit Bal Gandharva to catch up on the cultural activities on Monday. "Being small isn't a novelty, it is the fact that we are twins that attracts so much attention. Everywhere we go, people come up to us and want to click pictures," says Luv, the elder brother.

"We are thirty years old. Luv is 15 minutes older than me, so he always plays the role of the big brother and is very protective of me," says Kush. Their parents and younger sister are farmers, while their younger brother is a teacher in the village school.

The duo is always ready to strike a pose their favourite is standing back to back with arms folded across their chests. And if the fact that they are identical twins wasn't enough, they also wear T-shirts with the same pattern, but in different colours. "It is very difficult to tell us apart. Now that my family is looking for brides for us, we end up confusing women we meet," says Luv, who is looking forward to getting married this year.

"We are looking for brides with the same height as ours. Having a bride with the normal height would seem odd. In fact, it is one of our comedy stunts that we perform on stage," says Luv, as he describes the act. "Kush is the groom and is paired with a bride who is much taller than him. He tries to kiss her cheek, but cannot reach even after he jumps. He gets frustrated as she is too tall for him. It is a silly, clumsy slapstick act, but it is a reflection of what can happen in real life," says Luv. Kush adds that it would be ideal if they found twin dwarf sisters, but that's a long shot.
