The Election Commission has plotted, on Google maps embedded on its website, the location of polling booths that will be used at the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections, it announced on Tuesday.
The maps, which can be accessed upon clicking on the "information linked to polling station maps" button on the left side of the commission's home page at www.eci.nic.in, are divided district-wise and further into constituencies.
Each booth in a constituency is marked by a red pin, and a user can click on it to see the names and mobile phone numbers of various election officials, including of the District Electoral Officer and the Returning Officer.
Like any other Google Map, users can also plot the distance or direction that should be taken from their residences to the booth.
Another feature is a button for the electoral roll of each constituency, which can be downloaded and saved by users.
The commission had earlier plotted such maps for the National Capital Region and Himachal Pradesh, which went to polls earlier this month.
It said the rest of the states would also be plotted out in a similar manner "very soon".
"The commission hopes that electors and political parties will find this facility useful for smooth and active participation in the electoral process," the announcement said.
