Electricity panel decides on uniform policy for steetlights

A report on the status of streetlights was tabled in the meeting of the Electricity Committee on Thursday, which has submitted that around 86 per cent of streetlights and 90 per cent of lights in parks are functional. The councillors had earlier complained that most streetlights were not functional.
As per the report submitted, there are 18,495 streetlights of which 15,998 are functional. Meanwhile there are 4,913 lights in greenbelts and parks of which 4,343 are working. An action taken report of the status of the agenda items passed in the previous meetings was also tabled. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of councillor Arun Sood and attended by other members.
The members decided on a uniform policy for installation of streetlights and lights in parks. It was decided that glob lights would be provided in all the parks and greenbelts, while high mast lights would be provided in the markets. It was further decided that the Administration would be asked to provide a Junior Engineer as nodal officer to co-ordinate with them for solving the problems of streetlights on V-6 roads that are under the purview of the Administration.
The committee accorded approval for improvement of lights in Fragrance Garden, Sector 36 for which Rs 5.61 lakh was approved. The streetlights on the V-3 road in Sector 17/22 would be augmented at a cost of Rs 7.68 lakh.
